About the Venue
The residency will take place at Relais La Rupe, a 16th-century villa located in the heart of Sorrento.

This historic venue combines architectural heritage with a stunning natural setting. Surrounded by lush gardens featuring centuries-old trees and views of ancient ruins, the villa offers a serene and inspiring space for artistic creation.

The interiors of Relais La Rupe provide comfortable living spaces and a welcoming atmosphere, while the outdoor areas serve as ideal locations for workshops, lectures, and creative experiments. This unique venue will allow participants to engage deeply with the cultural and historical context of Sorrento.
About the Theme
We invite artists from various disciplines to join us in this creative journey, exploring the multifaceted theme: “Reimagining Genius Loci: how the movement of people and traditions shapes the Spirit of Place and new communities.”

Genius Loci, or the spirit of a place, is shaped by history, culture, and nature, influencing both architecture and community life. As people move across borders, they bring unique traditions that blend with local heritage, enriching spaces and fostering cultural exchange. Balancing these influences is key to preserving identity while embracing change. Artists Residencies Cultural Association and DOM Art Residence invite artists to ExtrArtis to explore this theme—reinterpreting Genius Loci through art and contributing to the dialogue on cultural heritage, identity, and transformation.

This summer, we will welcome an amazing group of international artists for two creative sessions by the sea - in collaboration with ExtrArtis – a platform dedicated to supporting contemporary artists through production, research, and residencies in southern Italy.
