Javier León Pérez

Javier León Pérez
Javier León Pérez is one of the selected artists for the upcoming DOM Art Residence in collaboration with the cultural association Artists Residencies as part of the fourth edition of ExtrArtis @extrartis in August 2025 in Sorrento, Italy.
  • Born in Seville and deeply influenced by his Andalusian and gypsy heritage, Javier León Pérez brings a unique poetic language to contemporary art, using paper not just as material — but as metaphor. For him, paper becomes a second skin: sensitive, porous, vulnerable, and protective all at once.
  • Rooted in Zen philosophy and the fragility of existence, Javier’s work explores dualities - order and fluidity, wholeness and fragmentation, repetition and transcendence. His signature use of washi (traditional Japanese paper) forms delicate, layered compositions that evoke natural structures, ritual gestures, and a profound sense of presence.
  • Trained in painting, ceramics, and bronze at the University of Fine Art in Seville and later earning an MA in Art, Research and Production at the Complutense University of Madrid, Javier has exhibited internationally and received numerous awards. His paper-based work has been recognized at the Paper Biennial in the Netherlands, the Lalin Contemporary Art Biennale in Spain, and the International Paper Art Biennial in Shanghai.
  • His works have been acquired by important collections, including La Caixa Foundation (Spain), Valentín de Madariaga (Seville), and DEARTE Collection (Spain), Galila`s POC Foundation (Brussels), Boghossian Foundation (Brussels), Fengxian Museum (Shanghai), and by prominent collectors in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines and Korea.
