Yuhanxiao (Maggie) Ma, a research-driven artist born in 2002, whose fascination with objects informs her innovative practice. Through crafting, 3D fabrication, multimedia installations, and performance art, Yuhanxiao examines the social and critical implications of technology, exploring how technological innovations and societal structures shape our lived experiences.
Yuhanxiao's artistic process is rooted in meticulous study and research. She selects a specific topic and presents her findings through various media and forms. Influenced by the phenomenological tradition in Western continental philosophy, her works encourage viewers to critically examine and reconsider the established norms that govern our perceptions and experiences.
Yuhanxiao graduated in May 2024 from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University, concentrating in Media, Arts, and Technology, with a minor in Philosophy. Her achievements include being awarded a spot in the 2024 School of Visual Arts Summer Residency for 'Interdisciplinary Practices in Bio Art,' and being admitted to Gallatin’s Dean’s Honor Society, which included a fully funded trip to West Africa to investigate the intersection of arts and politics in Senegal. Additionally, her photography piece "Déjà Vu" won the Gallatin Review (Volume 38) Visual Art Prize in 2023.
Yuhanxiao's work has been featured in several group exhibitions, including “Modest Witnesses” at School of Visual Arts, ”A Clock in Progress" at TheBLANC Gallery in New York (2024), and multiple presentations at the Gallatin Galleries at NYU, such as "Feeding Watch" and "Infusion Time." Her previous exhibitions include the IMA Show at New York University and "Peter Pan Syndrome" at the Nanjing Academy of Art in China.
