The invisible link

In her installation, The Invisible Link, Karla Paredes combines ceramic and textile elements and drawings, exploring the idea that every connection between all parts of our world has dynamic potential. In Asian culture, this potential is called "shi." Karla demonstrates that this potential also exists in certain combinations of objects. The "shi" of a system constantly changes — it is the mood or character of the whole; it shifts over time, and its elements also transform. The installation represents a meeting of various elements, where, on the one hand, they join forces, and on the other, they retain the unique characteristics of each. The Invisible Link raises an important question about how diversity and similarity coexist and are key aspects of nature. What we might consider otherworldly or "alien" turns out to be much closer to us than we might imagine.
